Acacia House & 5 The Green, Haddenham
Acacia House is a building with character that graces The Green. It is set back from the main road and therefore is relatively quiet. The adjacent Mill Yard is a village lane; the presence of buildings so close to the edge of the street gives it a rustic air with character and is in keeping with the back alleys and lanes off the High Street.Acacia House is historically a large Dwelling House with a commercial site to the rear. In more recent times the site has been host to; a Mill, a Builders Yard and more recently, Engineering Workshops; indeed the house itself was used as a workshop, store and office.
Our scheme is to return the Fabric of number 5 The Green and Acacia House to dwelling houses, restoring the frontages to a former glory and conserving the buildings main features. 5 The Green was original a small cottage and then a Bank; more recently a part time shop. Behind the frontages, the structure of both Acacia House and ‘5 The Green’ will convert to three, two bedroom houses of high quality and specification.
To the rear is a variety of low quality workshops and barns which are in disrepair. These outbuildings will be completely demolished and replaced with four, two bedroom houses in a courtyard scheme. The main structure of the houses will be built to high ECO standards with insulation and air loss values exceeding that of current regulations. The carbon footprint of our properties is of high relevance and should be measured not only with immediate effect but also the life time of the building. Low structural maintenance and domestic heating costs are of the utmost importance in this regard. It is without doubt that solid structures, insulation and thermal mass are inextricably linked and we aim to address this within our structures, incorporating the very latest advances in building technology with traditional appearances.
The development is within a conservation area and our Architectural Design team have sympathetically used brick, timber-cladding and render under tiled roofs that constitute the characteristic features of the area. The team have styled the new buildings, borrowing from the surrounding reminders of the past. The scheme will enhance the ambiance of the area and provide a sustainable use where previously there was none.
